Revolutionizing Agriculture: The Ideal Combine Harvester

Agco's Innovative Solution for Efficient and Quality Farming

Designed by Morten Leth Bilde and Patrick Lorriette, the Ideal combine harvester is a groundbreaking agricultural machine that embodies efficiency, versatility, and quality. This award-winning design is set to redefine farming operations worldwide.

The Ideal combine harvester, a product of Agco's vision to provide high-tech solutions for farmers, is an embodiment of innovation and quality. This revolutionary machine is designed to meet the diverse needs of farmers across the globe, offering full connectivity, automated adjustment, real-time crop flow visualization, and an efficient processing system. The Ideal combine harvester, with its narrow body, is the first high-capacity combine of its kind.

Agco's innovative design was brought to life through a collaborative effort involving various functions worldwide, including Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Service, Product Management, Parts, Marketing, Purchasing, Finance, and IT. The Ideal combine harvester will be produced in three plants, leveraging a common platform, tooling, and suppliers for a global strategy. A new Flexible Manufacturing System for welding was implemented, and work instructions are managed through a Team Centre system, according to the machine sequence in the assembly line.

The Ideal combine harvester boasts unique features that offer superior performance. Its long rotors provide excellent straw and grain quality, while its large grain tank and the market's fastest unloading rate save time and money. Special sensors enable automatic identification of the crop flow, ensuring a constant and high throughput. The Idealharvest feature makes Ideal a fully self-adjusting combine, setting all harvesting parameters according to the target decided on the iPad, which also provides real-time crop visualization.

The design process of the Ideal combine harvester involved rigorous research and testing. Strengths of competitor machines were analyzed to improve the Ideal project, particularly the cleaning system and the processor. Components and modules underwent rigorous stress tests in specific test benches worldwide. Dynamic fluid simulations were performed with Technical University Dresden to improve overall performance and reliability. Strain gages and transducers were installed to measure loads and many parameters directly in the field and with telemetry.

The Ideal combine harvester is a testament to Agco's commitment to innovation and quality. It sets new efficiency levels in any harvesting conditions and includes three models from 451 to 650 hp that deliver significant gains in productivity and output. This high-performance combine range was designed based on the requirements of farmers and operators worldwide, focusing on efficiency, grain and straw quality, reliability, user-friendliness, and a revolutionary sensor technology for optimal machine setting.

In recognition of its innovative design and contribution to the agricultural industry, the Ideal combine harvester was awarded the Platinum A' Agricultural Tools, Farming Equipment and Machinery Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award recognizes world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that showcase unmatched professionalism, contribute to societal wellbeing, and make the world a better place.
